Freedom From Addiction

DAY 3 OF 14

As a person living free from past addictions, I can say firsthand that I know what hell on earth is like. I know the torment, the darkness, and the very real spiritual oppression that accompanies addiction. Consequently, when I read about the need to be “reborn” it made some sense to me although I didn’t know exactly what being “born again” meant.

It was when I found out that the term “born again” can be just as accurately translated to, “born from above,” that I began to gain some clarity about this new life with Jesus. Being born from above, or into the Spirit of God, gives us a clean slate and a new heart. Being born from above is when we go from being a spiritual orphan to being adopted into the family of God through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

As we are reborn, our loving Father in heaven takes up residence inside us, evicts our sinful nature, and takes us by the hand and shows us how to live a new life with Him. As He takes up residence in our hearts, we begin to learn a new culture and a new way of life.

Prayer Tip

Pray to God to show you how to live one day at a time with Him. Practice being kind to yourself, and ask for patience as you engage in this journey and process with God. Ask God to take you into a season where He shows you exactly what it means to live this new life with Him. Ask Him to teach you how to truly be a follower of Jesus Christ. Ask Him to show you how to live as a fully accepted member of the family of God who knows His voice and presence.

Action Step

If you don’t have a church family yet, it will be of great benefit to you to begin to pray and look for one. Ask God to guide you to the right church. If you do have a church family, call someone you know from your church and ask them to help keep you accountable in your journey.
