Growing in Truth – For ParentsSample
Read Ephesians 4:15
Think
No matter how old you are, there is always more growing up to do—especially when it comes to being honest with ourselves and others, and our capacity to show love to others. There are always people watching us—especially our kids. Every day we have to step up our game, grow up a little more and work hard to treat everyone we meet with love, kindness, and respect. We think we’ve arrived, until someone cuts in front of us when we’re already running late or is rude and unhelpful at the store, or refuses to admit or right their wrong. Growing pains—sometimes hard but always worth it. God, our Father, is proud when we are so honest it hurts and love without limits.
Talk
Ask yourself: Why is honesty so important?
Ask a child: What do I need to do differently today to help me grow up in truth? (Hint: It could have something to do with your honesty or it could have something to do with your actions in how you treat others.)
Discuss together: What can we do to guard ourselves from lying or the temptation to bend the truth, even just a little bit?
Pray
Dear Jesus, thank you for giving us the Bible that makes knowing how you want me to live so clear. Please help me be a person who is brave enough to always tell the truth. I’m sorry for the times that I have lied—please forgive me for my dishonesty. I want to grow up and be more like you, so I need your help to love others enough to always tell them the truth. Amen.
