This is a powerful verse about truth. It was the verse written in stain glass in the front of my church growing up. I stared at it every Sunday wondering why, of all the verses in the Bible, this one was the one chosen someone wanted us to read every week.

 I think it’s because it’s so easy to begin to think we can do things on our own…in our own strength. And this verse serves to remind us who Jesus is. This verse serves as a strong reminder that I am the “no one” in this verse and that Jesus is our everything. He is the only way to overcome our sins and have a new life in relationship with God our Heavenly Father.

Ask yourself: When is a time you realized you had done something wrong and needed someone else to help you make it right? 

Ask a child: Have you ever gotten lost? What helped you find your way?

Discuss together: Sometimes life can be challenging. Figuring out what is true or how to make wise choices seems confusing. When we aren’t sure what the best choice is, how can we help remind each other to look for truth? (Hint: don’t forget that Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.")

Pray 

Father, help us keep our eyes on Jesus because we know that He IS the way—the only way. Thank you for giving us this important truth in your Word. Help me remember it when I am tempted to think or do things that take me off the path that leads to eternal life in you. Amen.
