Living With Purpose on Purpose

DAY 1 OF 8

I had just transitioned from a full-time position and felt without purpose. The one thing I did know to do was to turn to God's Word and to relearn my identity wasn’t tied to a job title but to who I am in Christ. “It’s the who before the do.”— Craig Groeschel.

Scripture has a lot to say about our purpose. As we submit our purpose, and seek His will, He will faithfully lead you to your next position. After all, God created us in His likeness, and gave us specific gifts and talents to use. So often we set out to make something of ourselves and get off course with God's plans and where He wants to take us. That's why it's important to submit our purpose to God first, so that He can direct our steps.

Proverbs 16:9 is one of my favorite directional verses I go to when I need God to lead me where He wants me to go. “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” The Passion Translation gives us a little more meaning when it states, “Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.”

I find this especially encouraging because if we miss a step or are unclear about where to go and what to do, God doesn’t hesitate to show us the very next step we should take. Keep in mind, He’s got plans for the future and they include you!

We often try to jump ahead of God or produce our own spin on an agenda that doesn’t include Him. We so easily attach our personal value to what our hands produce. I’m learning to trust God with every move, and my heart’s desires. No matter the season, God — who has no needs — anticipates all of ours.

As we accept His plans, the timing of God is foundational to our partnership with Him. God is a good Father who always looks after our best interests. Resting in God’s timeline and your identity in Christ—and not your career choice—is the weapon you’ll need to use in all seasons.
