Through the Bible: EphesiansSample
Was Blind, But Now I See
This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Ephesians 3:6
Whilst imprisoned after preaching to the Gentiles, Apostle Paul wrote to encourage the mixed group of Ephesian believers, addressing them as saints, or holy ones (Ephesians 1:1). It’s a groundbreaking identity because only Jews were traditionally regarded as “the holy people”. It’s not only a gospel message, but a victorious Kingdom message and culture which Paul was willing to be imprisoned for.
Paul revealed the mystery in Christ that’d been concealed for ages. Before time and through Christ, God united both Jewish and Gentile believers as co-heirs of one family and one body - the Church. The Church inheritance is knitted together on the foundation of apostles and prophets, with Christ being the cornerstone, by grace and through indwelling work of Holy Spirit as the seal and guarantee. It’s not to replace the Jewish inheritance; we are now all co-heirs with Christ universally and eternally. Because Christ lives in us, each member becomes a functional part of the living body.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for opening Apostle Paul’s sight to reveal Your Kingdom purpose. Thank you that the believers are now co-heirs with Christ and citizens of the Kingdom. We pray for those oppressing the Church, that their eyes too would be open to Your greatness. In Jesus's victorious Name, Amen.
