Nehemiah: A Model Prayer WarriorSample

Nehemiah: A Model Prayer Warrior

DAY 6 OF 6

We’ve learned so much from Nehemiah over the past 5 days! Let’s review the key lessons from this Bible study and ask for God’s help to apply them to our lives.

I encourage you to find a quiet space and bring a journal to this time of reflection. Start with a few deep breaths to calm your body and mind. Remember that God is with you right now. Ask God to speak to you and give you the grace to listen and understand.

  1. Pray and then act:
    1. Key verse: “Then I prayed to the God of heaven...and I answered the king” (Nehemiah 2:4).
    2. Main insight: Before Nehemiah acted, he prayed.
    3. Journal prompt: Do you sense God calling you to do something? Bring it to the Lord now. Ask for His guidance and wisdom for the task at hand. Pray that the Lord will go ahead of you. Entrust your calling to Him fully.
  2. You are not alone:
    1. Key verse: “The God of heaven will help us succeed. We, his servants, will start building this wall” (Nehemiah 2:20).
    2. Main insight: God doesn’t expect us to carry out our calling alone. He has promised to be with us and will bring us helpers along the way.
    3. Journal prompt: Are you striving to fulfill your calling all alone? Pray for the Holy Spirit to start revealing to you how God is working all around you. Ask for the faith to believe even when you can’t see.
  3. God sees you:
    1. Key verse: All of chapter 3 including verse 17, “Shallun son of Kol-Hozeh . . . (put the) bolts and bars in place.”
    2. Main insight: Your hard work is seen by God, and He rejoices over you.
    3. Journal prompt: Do you ever feel lost and overwhelmed by life? Does your labor feel hidden and thankless? How does it make you feel that God sees you and says “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21)?
