Nehemiah: A Model Prayer WarriorSample

Nehemiah: A Model Prayer Warrior

DAY 4 OF 6

We are still working in the third chapter of Nehemiah, and I hope you are finding how rich and applicable the word of God is every single day!

In this segment of scripture, there is a well-defined plan that is shared. It is strategic - it is intentional. I love that about Nehemiah. He is a prayerful man, but he is also a man of action. He has assessed the situation with the wall, gathered his supporters, and got them fired up to do their duty.

It was now not only a matter of cultural pride and honor but also an effort of significant spiritual importance.

What I absolutely love about chapter 3 is Nehemiah reports all those who gave their time and talents. These people were pouring into the calling that Nehemiah originally felt in his own heart. God had revealed His plan and brought others into this work. And work they did!

He noted the families, the tribal leaders, and the priests and wrote down EXACTLY what they did. Y’all if you ever wonder if God sees all the little details that it takes to get your family successfully to church on time (or somewhere near on time), what it takes to do a family worship time at home when people are tired, fussy or hungry, and what it looks like to spearhead a project that is complicated and may not have riches and accolades attached for each participant - you get what Nehemiah was facing. But as I believe the Bible is the Holy Spirit-inspired word of God, God wanted to highlight, recognize, and honor those who honored Him. Page after page of names, families, and of specific works are listed from hanging the doors to “putting the bolts and the bars in place.

If you work behind the scenes in any capacity of service and you do it working as unto the Lord - He sees you. Let’s just camp here for a moment. Mama - when you are up with a sick toddler in the middle of the night, exhausted and concerned: He sees you. Dad- when you are struggling to connect with a teenager who seems to have changed overnight into an unknown species: God is watching you and cheering you on. Teacher - when you have kids who are distracted, disgusted, or depressed as you try to impart wisdom and a healthy concept of work into young minds: HE IS THERE!

In Hebrews, there is a segment of scripture that is called the faith hall of fame. For sure, Nehemiah is listed there - but I believe every one of these families and individuals listed here is being honored in heaven as well.

Take a beat and recognize this truth - as you work to minister in the place God has planted you - whether that be Jerusalem or Jonesboro - God is standing there. He’s calling His people to rise up and co-labor alongside you. He is delighted in your obedience and is singing over you - “Well done, good and faithful servant. Well done!”
