Making Jesus King

DAY 3 OF 5

Sometimes, making Jesus our King is easy. When everything is going well in life, we have no problem surrendering to what God says. But, when we’re faced with a hard decision, when bad things happen, or when we doubt that what God says is best, it suddenly becomes a lot harder to make Jesus King. When we make Jesus King, it means he is king over everything in our lives. We don’t get to pick and choose when he is king and when he isn’t. We don’t get to share the throne with him. This might seem unfair now, but it’s excellent news because Jesus knows what’s ultimately the best for us. Jesus knows you better than anyone. He sees everything about you, loves you, and wants the best for you. It’s easy to hold onto the things that we think we deserve- our desires, our rights, the things we’ve worked hard for, and our dreams. But following Jesus and making him King ultimately means laying down all of those things in exchange for trust that Jesus knows what’s best. He knows what we need and what is best for the future. Those are things that we can’t know. We have a very limited perspective of life, but God sees everything. He wants the best for you, even if it seems difficult for a moment. He’s a good king and a king worth following.

Challenge: Write down Jeremiah 29:11 somewhere you will see it frequently (or try to memorize it!) When you face difficult circumstances, come back to the verse as a reminder that God’s plans for you are best!
