Jesus-Centered Family Devotions

DAY 7 OF 7

Read aloud: “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” (John 13:34) Say: What are some words that describe how Jesus loves us? After family members suggest words, say: If that’s how Jesus loves us, that’s how Jesus wants us to love each other—including the people in our family. The good news is I’ve seen us love each other in some amazing ways. Briefly tell each family member how you’ve seen him or her love others within the family. Encourage family members to share how they’ve seen each other be loving as well. And be sure you find out how you’ve been loving, too. Say: Let’s ask Jesus to help us feel how deep and wide his love for us really is. Let’s sit quietly for two minutes and ask that Jesus bring to our minds just how much he loves us…and how much he wants us to love others. After two minutes have passed, ask if anyone was nudged with a word, Bible verse, or mental picture—anything that might be Jesus speaking into a family member about his love. Talk about whatever a family member heard or saw while waiting on Jesus.
