What do you look to for a sense of stability? You might rely on a loved one or significant other to make you feel secure. You may look to the amount in your bank account to help you feel stable. While money, relationships, or our circumstances can give us a semblance of stability, true and lasting stability comes from the Lord. God is the one who keeps us steady, even in the unstable moments of our lives. God cannot be shaken. He is greater than anything in our universe, and nothing can move Him or overcome Him. If we belong to God, we, too, are unshakable. Because we belong to the One who can never be moved, we can never be moved. However, this does not mean that we will never experience suffering. This does not mean that we will not wrestle with fear or feel shaken up by our circumstances. Rather, our relationship with God, as well as the salvation we have received from Christ, ensures that God helps us to remain steadfast in all of life’s situations and sufferings. Nothing can truly tear us down as believers, and even when we experience death, we have the sure hope that God will bring us from this life into His presence. The security we have in the Lord encourages us to trust Him. In fact, it is when we trust in the Lord that we fully experience the security and stability that God gives us. When we focus on what is overwhelming us rather than on the Lord, we often find ourselves feeling shaken. But when we look to the Lord and trust in Him, we experience peace and hope, which help to settle our anxious hearts. The more we look to God, the more we are reminded that we are safe and secure in Him, no matter how unstable our circumstances may be. So let us trust in the Lord and rest in the truth that He surrounds us, both now and forever. Reflect and Respond How can you look to God alone for stability?
