Trust: A Walk Through the Psalms (Ps. 121-150)

DAY 2 OF 5

Imagine that you wake up one Sunday morning and find yourself with no desire to go to church. It is not that you do not appreciate church or see the value in it, but you simply do not want to make the effort to get up, get dressed, and make it to church. But then your phone buzzes, alerting you to a text from a friend that reads, “Are you coming to church today? I hope to see you and sit with you!” Their intentionality gives you a burst of motivation to go to church after all, as you look forward to worshiping with your community. It is encouraging to have other believers spur us on in our worship of the Lord. As believers, we are called to worship the Lord, and it is a blessing to worship Him together. It is a gift to gather together, whether on Sunday morning or another time in our week, to sing songs to the Lord, listen to the preaching of His Word, and enjoy fellowship with one another. But if we do not have unity with one another, our fellowship becomes threatened. If we quarrel with one another, set ourselves against one another, or allow gossip to strain our relationships, the body of Christ weakens in its harmony. And as a result, God is not worshiped as He should be, for His people are not walking in the unity that they have received from Christ. As believers, it is important that we strive to have unity with one another. Jesus has made us one by His blood, and we should take our unity in Christ seriously. It is a gift to belong to God and to one another, but we trample upon this gift when we do not love, support, and help one another as we should. So let us seek to have peace with one another as believers by humbly serving and loving one another. When we all strive for harmony, God is glorified, and His people are unified in their worship of Him. Reflect and Respond How does disunity hurt the body of Christ? How does seeking unity impact our worship of God?
