Burnout Epidemic

DAY 3 OF 6

Burnout Epidemic: Part III

In this series, we’re talking about the rising incidence of manager burnout. The Harvard Business Review identified six reasons behind our growing level of burnout.

The second reason listed was a perceived lack of control. In the Harvard Business Review, Elizabeth Saunders wrote, “Feeling like you lack autonomy, access to resources, and a say in decisions that impact your professional life can take a toll on your well-being.”

The pandemic created a lack of resources which limited the ability to accomplish goals.

Colossians 4:1 teaches, “Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.”

As a leader of others who may be experiencing burnout, consider ways to provide your employees the resources and autonomy necessary for their success.

Questions for Reflection

  • Do you feel out of control in your job? Do you know the actual limits of your position? What are your resources, both personal and professional? What are your duties in your job? Who or what could assist you with them?
  • In your business, how is responsibility divided? Do your coworkers or employees know how much control they have over their projects? Does more control need to be allocated to your employees? What resource could help them do their job more efficiently, and how might you provide them with access to it?
