TheLionWithin.Us: How to Lead Your Children

DAY 2 OF 7

Deeds, Not Words

There is a sad reality when it comes to many Christians, and it is that their actions do not reflect their beliefs.

Ask any restaurant worker and they will tell you that the Sunday “church” crowd is the most unwanted shift available. This is unacceptable and we need to recognize that our actions are of the upmost importance.

1 Timothy 3:4 tells us that we must manage our households well and the best way to start doing that is by modeling Christ-like behavior ourselves. This is no small feat, and you will undoubtedly stumble. The key is to strive to be more and more Christ-like each day. Your kids will see your behavior and their actions will follow.

As their dad, you are your children’s hero and that can be a daunting task. Start by making small improvements in how you interact with your kids on daily items. If you are not praying aloud with your kids (meals, bedtime, at random) this is a great place to begin. As you grow in your Christian walk, start challenging yourself by leading family devotion and let them see you reading God’s Word. Your actions will set the tone for the cubs in your house, so lead well.

Question to Consider

  1. What is one action you can take to start showing your children your love for God?
  2. How does your language reflect the fruit of the Spirit?
  3. What actions will you commit to today to be the leader God intends you to be?
