Promises: God's loving discipline points us to Himself. It is in trials, tribulation, and testing that we are pressed into His promises. Where will we place our trust? Will it be in the world, our own insight, the cleverness of human intelligence? Or will we place our trust in God and His promises? Is your thinking based on temporal reasoning or upon the trustworthy promises of God? Treasure the promises of God in His Word. Search for them as you would mine for pure gold and cling to them in great expectation. Jerry Bridges encourages us, "The Bible is full of God’s promises to provide for us spiritually and materially, to never forsake us, to give us peace in times of difficult circumstances, to cause all circumstances to work together for our good, and finally to bring us safely home to glory. Not one of those promises is dependent upon our performance. They are all dependent on the grace of God given to us through Jesus Christ." May we enjoy the fruit of resting in the promises of God.

Heavenly Father, I praise you for you are the one who gives me counsel morning, noon, and night. When I find it hard to see you or understand your ways I can trust your character. You are holy, holy, holy. You are light and there is no darkness in you. You are God. There is no other. The world makes many empty promises, but yours are faithful and true. Help me learn your promises, cherish them, and store them in my heart so that I can stand on them in time of need. In Jesus' name. Amen.
