7 Truths of Marriage: How Two Become One

DAY 6 OF 7

Becoming Fruitful

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7

Sowing and reaping are important dynamics related to two becoming one. God’s Word has many wonderful examples reflecting the agrarian culture of the time. Planting seeds and harvesting crops are scattered throughout the Bible and remain as true then as it does today. What fruit you get depends on what seeds you plant. That’s true for farmers, and it’s true for your marriage.

Your relationship will bear fruit, but the question is, what types of fruit will you harvest? You and your spouse should strive to sow seeds of love and kindness. The most evident and tangible seed comes from your words to one another. Proverbs 18:21 is the most popular Scriptural reference for emphasizing words’ impact on delivering death and life.

We want to challenge you to read one more line beyond that well-known verse. Not only does God identify the consequences of sowing positive and negative words, but He adds in 22 that reads, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” There’s no coincidence that verse 22 follows the warning against your words sowing death.

If you want to reap a harvest of happy, fulfilling years married to the apple of your eye, commit to planting seeds through your speech with words that will bloom love in all seasons.

Truth Talk:

What seeds are you sowing into your relationship? Be quick to pull the weeds of negative and hurtful words by repenting and asking forgiveness as soon as they sprout. Your speech is a reflection of your heart, so be intentional about allowing both to be sowed into and reaped with only positive nutrients.
