There’s some old wisdom that goes something like this: “Find out what God is doing, and join Him.”

As you lead your child on mission in God’s kingdom, take time to investigate what God’s kingdom is like, what’s important to God, what moves His heart. There are lots of scripture passages that give us a glimpse of the character of God’s kingdom.

Jesus told many parables that actually begin, “The kingdom of God [or the kingdom of heaven] is like this …” Consider reading some of these with your child and talking about what they might mean. You can even go back to some of the earliest passages in the Bible to get some ideas of what God has in mind for His world. How were the Israelites supposed to participate in God’s work? What was God’s promise to Abraham about blessing the nations? And ask God along the way, “What are you doing around us?”, “Who have you placed in our lives?”, “What have you put in our hands to bless others with?”.
