Day#4. God speaks to you through your spouse

When God gave Eve to Adam, He gave him a helper, a counterpart. 

Many men think of their wives as helpers in the sense of housewives. However, the Hebrew word "ezer," translated as "helper," is never used for servants in the Bible. It is always used to describe God's help to his children, but it can also be translated as help.

So if you are married, remember that God will speak to you often through your spouse. It is even possible that He will resist you as long as you do not listen to your spouse.

If you are single, understand the importance of choosing a spouse who walks with God.

The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and then consider what your spouse says!

What if my spouse doesn't agree with me? 

There are two possibilities: either he/she is right and by listening to him/her, you are protected from a bad decision, or he/she is wrong and God is able to talk to him/her too! 

You will protect the unity of your relationship by making your decisions together, in harmony. It may seem longer at times, but what a security to walk in unity! 

Listening to one's spouse is also a mark of honor and love, for it shows the following:  "I believe that God dwells in you too and that He can speak to me through you. I also believe that you are the help God has given me, a precious gift." 

Finally, love is walking hand in hand in the same direction.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the spouse you have given me. I ask for your forgiveness for the pride that prevents me from hearing you through him/her. Help me to preserve the unity between us at all costs.

Father, guide me to the one you have planned for me, a person filled with your wisdom and your heart.
