A Christmas Mystery

DAY 13 OF 15

What’s a good gift to give to a baby? A Nintendo game? No, a Nintendo game is too hard for babies. What do babies need? A teddy bear! A toy rattle! A teething ring! Or diapers. Babies sure do use a lot of those. Jesus was a little toddler when the wise men visited Him with gifts. They didn’t seem to think to bring gifts that little toddlers would like. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh!

The mysterious star had been leading the wise men on their journey to find Jesus. It went ahead of them and stopped right over the place where Jesus was.

You see, the wise men were not just bringing fun presents. They were bringing treasures that were offerings to worship the newborn king. Gold, beautiful and expensive, was a gift fit for a king. Frankincense, fragrant and special, is a symbol of Jesus’ priestly role. Myrrh is an anointing oil, setting Jesus apart. He is the Messiah for all people. The wise men had followed the star a long distance to bring their offering of worship to Jesus, and they were overjoyed when they found Him. They couldn’t wait to worship!

About this Plan

A Christmas Mystery

Through the mysteries of the messengers, the manger, and the star, we discover that Christmas is not just about gifts. It’s about the birth of Jesus, that God is with us, and Christmas is a time to worship Him.
