DAY 2 OF 5

Strong Character

Imagine it’s Saturday morning and you have no school, practice, or plans. You get to do whatever you want!. Or, at least you thought so.

In walks your mom. She declares today is “cleaning day,” and you have to clean your room. This is not at all what you thought your day would look like. Your plan was to play a game, watch a movie, or hang with friends.

How do you respond to your mom? Do you complain, fuss, or argue? Or do you get up and honor your mom by cleaning your room?

The way you would choose to respond to your mom shows a lot about your character. Good character shows cooperation with others, kindness and wisdom, and it serves others with humility — it honors those around you.

When we have a relationship with Jesus, He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us in what we say, think, and do. But it’s up to us to choose how we are going to respond.

The Bible uses the phrase “Fruit of the Spirit” to define the traits of a person who has good character. These traits aren’t just good ways for us to act; they help us handle decisions, relationships, and situations. They help us make good choices.

Ask yourself: Do you know someone who shows strong character? What qualities, characteristics, or traits do they have that make you think so highly of them?

Challenge yourself: Choose to have strong character. Be kind, loving, wise, and understanding. Serve others with humility, and demonstrate self-control.

Pray: God, thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit to help guide us in making good choices. Please help me to show strong character in every situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

During this episode of “Super Nova Standoff,” the StarKeepers show why it’s important to have good character in everyday situations.
