River Valley Church SOAP -Part 1Sample
Luke sets out to collect eyewitness accounts of the life of Jesus and His followers for someone named Theophilus, so he writes a two volume work, which have become the books of Luke and Acts. He begins with the story of Jesus as a fulfillment of what Israel’s prophets said about a savior of their nation. Strangely, Jesus isn’t born into an honored family as one would expect of Israel’s savior. Rather, he’s born to a young virgin named Mary. Jesus grows, and later begins his public ministry after being baptized and then tempted by the devil for 40 days. He quickly begins performing miracles for sick people and outsiders, even on the day of rest. He says that God blesses the poor, hungry, and sorrowful, and tells people to “love their enemies.”
