In the second half of Mark’s account of Jesus’ story, Jesus’ counter-cultural message finally starts to get out. People are beginning to hear about his ideas, and the authorities of Jewish society aren’t happy about this. He is killed in a shameful, humiliating way on a Roman cross, and it seems like the story is over. Some women go to anoint Jesus’ body, and discover an empty tomb and an angel. They run away – afraid to tell anyone about what they’ve seen – and yet, the message of Jesus’ resurrection still spreads.
