## Forgiveness is a Process One of the worst tactics the devil uses to slow our walk with Christ is to bring up things out of our past. If he can get us to focus on what we’ve done or haven’t done, he can get us to live under a cloud of shame. The good news is that Jesus came to set us free. When the grace of God shines down upon us, shame dissipates. Reminding us of old grudges or old habits of bitterness, the enemy gets us to ask the question, “What if I haven’t really forgiven them?” We might beat ourselves up, thinking, “I should have let this go by now.” If thoughts like these ever plague you, you need to remember two things. First, remember that forgiveness is a process. Just because a grudge resurfaces doesn’t mean you never truly forgave. It may just be time to forgive again. Forgiveness is an ongoing decision, one that we may need to work through each day until we’re fully free. God’s mercies for us are new every morning, and because of this, we can wake up each day and remind ourselves to continue in an attitude of forgiveness. Second, remember who you are in Christ. Romans 8:1-2 says: “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.” Jesus has set you free. The traps of bitterness or shame will hold no weight over us if we choose to abide in Christ. When we surrender our hearts daily to His leading, His will, and His presence, He gives us the strength we need to let go again.
