Day 3: Sounds Right But Wrong Spirit “On one occasion, as we went to the place of prayer, a servant girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the, Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.’ She did this for many days. But becoming greatly troubled, Paul turned to the spirit and said, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.’ And it came out at that moment.”—Acts 16:16-18 A python is a heat seeker. It identifies life by locating heat. The python spirit looks for the move of God. It looks for spiritual breakthrough and those pursuing the more. It finds those on their way to higher places and slithers through their lives and ministries, waiting to impose its deadly grasp. Paul was being hunted by a serpent. He was in hot pursuit of God’s presence and plan. He was on his way to prayer when this snake showed up. This young woman persistently followed Paul and his team around. She was using evil witchcraft against them. Though her words were not necessarily incorrect, Paul discerned the spirit behind what she was saying. Thank God for the discerning of spirits and revelation knowledge. If only all Christians realized what a powerful position they occupy in the spirit through the completed work of Jesus. Not only did Jesus win the spiritual battles for us and position us in Him, but He also paved the way for the wonderful Holy Spirit to come and indwell us. We can hear from heaven and avoid devilish traps through the leading of the Spirit. We can walk with Holy Spirit into truth, illumination, and victory! We do not have to be blinded by the powers of hell.
