KEY 7 // WHY THE HOLY SPIRIT? The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, where three united Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) form one God. The three Persons of the Trinity are completely equal and are God in different forms. The Holy Spirit is sometimes referred to as ‘it’ or a ‘thing’. However, the Holy Spirit is not just an influence, but a person, having characteristics. The Holy Spirit is given as a free gift to every person that puts their faith in God, and the Bible says that He comes and lives in us when we make this decision (John 14:16-17). Because He is a free gift, there is nothing that we can do to earn it other than putting our faith in God. The Holy Spirit has many roles within the life of a believer. The Bible talks about Him being a helper, giving us hope, setting us apart, making us more like Christ, helping us to know what God wants, and giving us gifts. He also anointed Jesus for the start of his ministry when He was baptized (Luke 4:18), empowering Him to be set apart everywhere He went. When Jesus was on Earth, he said to his disciples that he had to die in order for the Holy Spirit to come and fill every believer. When Jesus leaves us, the Holy Spirit he makes it clear that He will always be with us, through every season of life, (John 14:27). When we make a decision to follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit gives us peace that cannot be found in the world, meaning we don’t need to fear or be afraid anymore. TAKEAWAY TIPS 1\. THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDES OUR LIFE ​Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that He produces this fruit in us, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” The Spirit is fighting in our bodies against our selfish desires and the things that we want to do. But by letting the Spirit lead us, He helps us grow in our relationship with God and become more like Jesus. All we have to do is choose to let Him lead us in our daily lives. 2\. GET TO KNOW THE HOLY SPIRIT MORE Like any good relationship, the more time we spend time with someone, the more we get to know them.
