Manric Tan (LMPM): The Life of Joseph

ARAW 1 NG 7

God-given dreams need Godly dreamers Joseph may not yet be a man at the tender age of seventeen, and yet God opted to entrust him a dream that made him a history. It is entirely God’s prerogative to anoint whomever God chooses, setting no standards, without seeking permission from anyone. While the scripture shows that Joseph’s dream was from God, it is still up to Joseph how he would handle, interpret and share God’s dream to others, in a mature and godly way. In Gen. 37:2, before Joseph’s dream, the Bible showed a glimpse of Joseph’s character when Joseph brought his father a “bad” report about his brothers. Also, the story of coat of many colors (v. 3) and the dream which Joseph interpreted that his brothers would one day all bow down to him, made his brothers resent him the more. Joseph then, was not cautiously handling his status as his father’s favored son. Instead of taming it down, he stokes the fire. I heard Chuck Swindoll once said, ‘’I know a lot of passionate young people; I know a lot of active young people; I know a lot of committed young people; but I have yet to know a wise young people.’’ Considering that this is coming from a preacher of Swindoll’s caliber, that pronouncement is worth contemplating. Joseph was young and unmindful of the resentment and jealousy of his brothers. At this point, Chuck Swindoll must be right that he has yet to know a wise young people for that matter. A call to serve, a vision or a burden from God is an extra ordinary privilege, which requires humility, tact and gentleness to accomplish. Thus, being favored with such privilege from God does not make one better or more righteous than others. It should always be well thought out that great privilege comes with great responsibility and accountability. One has to be wise enough to use the gift of knowledge from God according to God’s design. What is of God is from God and must be handled with God.
