Only Serving Makes You Great The climate of modern society has convinced many people that influence and fame are somehow synonymous. That simply is not true—specifically for those of us who are followers of Christ. It is possible for influence to lead to fame but the sole purpose of influence is not fame. God doesn’t give you influence so that you can become famous. You're given influence with a responsibility to be effective at serving. Serving isn't to be self-serving. Instead, it is meant to serve something bigger than ourselves. In the context of following Christ, serving is how we bring God’s will into manifestation in the Earth. In the focus scripture, Jesus tells his disciples, very plainly, that the greatest among them will be the servants. Not those who exalt themselves. Not those who believe their title or status places them above service. Not those who only desire to lead when it doesn't involve joining in on the work to accomplish a mission. No, the greatest will always—and only—be those who roll up their sleeves and serve. There is no better time than now to be found serving, and serving well. To serve well means to do it in a selfless manner; to do whatever God impresses upon your heart to do in a way that does not rob him of glory. Perhaps that is joining a ministry team at your church or simply being more involved in your family. Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all of your might. Prayer: Father God, I lift my heart before you. Search it and purify it so that I might serve with a heart posture that is tried and true. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
