What Is God's Kingdom Like?

DAG 8 AV 14

## Why does it take so long before God’s Kingdom is fulfilled? > Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10) Jesus’ disciples witnessed the coming of God’s Kingdom, but at the same time, Jesus taught them to pray “Your Kingdom come” since it had not yet been completed. It still hasn’t today! We are still waiting for the fullness of God’s Kingdom at the end of the age. So, given the fact that Jesus’ sacrifice has given Satan the decisive blow, why does it take so long before he is completely destroyed and God’s new earth breaks through? We are not the first ones wrestling with this question. The apostle Peter writes about people who shrug their shoulders at God’s promises, claiming that nothing ever really changes. “All things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation,” they say, but Peter explains why God is waiting so long: > The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) We don’t know when Jesus will return. Until that moment, we should just keep praying: “Your kingdom come”!
