What Trees Can Teach Us About God and His KingdomSmakprov

[IMAGE CONTENT] Living under your fig tree in God’s glorious future In the Bible we read a lot about the people of Israel. Their history was pretty turbulent: they were enslaved in Egypt, camped for about 40 years in the desert, conquered a new land as their territory, and faced God’s judgments when they deserted Him. But today’s text tells about a time of peace and prosperity under king Solomon. This peaceful life is poetically described as ‘living under your vine and under your fig tree’. The same imagery is used by the prophet Micah, when speaking about the blessed future of Israel: “they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken” (Micah 4:4 (ESV). The key to such a peaceful and blessed life becomes clear in the next verse: “For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever” (Micah 4:5 ESV). Deep and lasting peace is only to be found in God, and will be complete on the new earth. Are you longing for such a glorious, peaceful future?
