Gideon was one of Israel’s major judges. Being a judge was no light task! Corruption can be an issue with any major form of leadership. Gideon had a responsibility to administer justice and make important decisions. He could have been dishonest during his time as a judge. Israel faced many trials during Gideon’s time as a judge. Like many of us, Gideon often doubted his abilities. He tested God! What is amazing about his journey is that we see the importance of not only fulfilling purpose, but we see how imperfection doesn’t hinder our purpose as long as we put our faith in God and stay the course. Even amid panic, war, and challenges, Gideon accomplished his purpose and increased his faith as a result. He destroyed the pagan idol of Baal and his army had great victories! As a result of fulfilling his purpose, he is affectionately known as one of the men in the Bible who had great faith. Prayer: Faithful and Intentional Father, as we wrap up our time studying examples of those who chose purpose over panic, help us to do the same! We know that You have a purpose for every one of us. There is not one human on the earth that was born without a purpose. As we move through life’s challenges and difficulties, help us to be like those in Your word who put their trust in You to fulfill their purpose. As we settle Your purpose for us in our hearts, enable us to see Your majestic faithfulness at work in an incredible way in and through us.
