What Does It Mean To 'Go'?

DAY 2 OF 5

Adopting a Community

There is an African proverb that says that it takes a village to raise a child. The intent behind this is that we were made to live in community. We were not meant to live on our own, isolated and alone.

We see community lived out in the trinity and we read about communities or tribes in the scriptures. Have you thought about the tribe or community that you belong to? What communities exist within a 5 km radius of your home? Are there skaters, runners, businesses, slums or schools? What community close to you needs Jesus to transform them? Sometimes our going is right in front of us.

As part of the body of Christ, we were all created to be part of a community, living life together. It’s not the ‘chosen’ ones or the ‘missionaries’ that go. It’s you and me.  And it’s in our everyday living, breathing, eating and sleeping life that we choose to set things in motion ‘to go’ . For example, a form of ‘going’ can look like you getting involved in a school or retirement community close to home.

Three steps to adopting a community:

1. Prayer walk your neighbourhood and pray God’s kingdom come and His will be done. Bless the homes, businesses and clubs in your area.

2.  Find out how you can get involved? Do you need to get to know your neighbour, join a running club or go have coffee at a local deli regularly?

3.  Speak to your family about adopting the community in your hearts and with your hands.  Decide on serving together in one way or another.
