God's Gifts in Our World: Mountains Ever been to Denver or talked with people who live there? If you have, you know why they moved there. In Denver you never have to guess which direction is west. The foothills of the Rockies are like a towering western wall to the entire Front Range. What is it about mountains that so rivets people’s gaze? Psalm 121:1,2 says, “I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Mountains act like a gigantic up arrow, lifting people’s heads up almost involuntarily. Their rugged and wild beauty bears witness to the infinite power of God, who is older and bigger than they. When all seems lost, when you are exhausted, when your labor seems in vain, find some mountains and look at them. Let them lead your gaze upward, away from your pain and troubles, up to the sky that is home to our friendly Sovereign.
