The Well

DAY 4 OF 4

As we finish this story of the Samaritan woman, we’re going to look for a moment at the titles given to Jesus throughout this story. Put yourself in her shoes once more, and look at who she knew Jesus to be throughout the dialogue of this story.

John 4:9 – “Jew”

Without knowing who Jesus was, all she knew about Jesus was his ethnicity. Growing up in her world, she would’ve been able to easily distinguish a Jew from a Samaritan.

John 4:11 – “Sir”

She shifted from calling Jesus “Jew” to “Sir”. As she learned that he wasn’t a typical Jew, she gave Jesus a title of respect.

John 4:19 – “Prophet”

After Jesus shined a light on her past, she realized he wasn’t an ordinary man at all. Indeed, this was a man that deserved higher honor.

John 4:29 – “Christ?”

Jesus revealed his identity as Messiah (or Christ). She was still in question about it, but knew that the town should come and see this man that could be the Christ. She left her jar behind and went to the town to speak to the Samaritans, solely based on Jesus’ testimony.

John 4:42 – “Savior of the world”

Because of the woman’s testimony, many Samaritans came to know Jesus as their Savior. What an incredible day of HOPE this was for the people!

Over time, she received a clearer and clearer view of Jesus, and realized who he really was. First as a Jew, and then as her Savior. Through the testimony of this rejected woman, many others also came to know Jesus.

Here’s a question for you: Who do you say Jesus is?

Is Jesus just a mere man, or is Jesus your Savior? Have you been filled with the very presence of God’s Living Water, and are you sharing your testimony so that others can believe?

Pray that God would open your eyes to see the ones that need to hear your testimony and pray that you would have the boldness to share the love of God with them.

On behalf of Inola Christian Church, we are grateful that you took the time to read this Bible Reading Plan. Our mission as a church is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. Our prayer is that you have taken another step closer to Him as you studied this story from John 4.

The world will leave us filling empty, but God’s Living Water will never stop flowing!

The Well

She was at the end of her rope. Feeling empty from her guilt and shame, she found herself incredibly lonely and in despair. How do we find hope when we’re living in despair? The answer is found in the story of “The Woman...
