Practising the Presence of GodSample

Practising the Presence of God

DAY 3 OF 3

Embracing Forgiveness and Discipline in Faith

In the journey of practicing the presence of God, we encounter two essential principles that play a significant role in our spiritual growth: forgiveness for those who genuinely repent and discipline for those who persist in wrongdoing. These principles are rooted in the core of Christian faith and can profoundly impact our relationship with God.

Forgiveness for Those Who Repent

One of the fundamental aspects of practicing the presence of God is the acknowledgment of His boundless forgiveness. When we genuinely repent and turn to God, His love and mercy envelop us, washing away our sins and granting us a fresh start.

"But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." (1 John 1:9,)

This verse reminds us that as we practice God's presence, we should approach Him with contrite hearts, recognizing our faults, and seeking His forgiveness. God's willingness to forgive demonstrates His infinite love for us.

Discipline for Those Who Persist in Wrongdoing

While forgiveness is readily available for those who repent, discipline is a necessary aspect of practicing the presence of God when individuals persist in wrongdoing. God's discipline serves as a loving correction, guiding us back onto the path of righteousness.

"For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child." (Heb 12:6)

As we seek to practice the presence of God, we must understand that His discipline is an expression of His love. It is intended to refine our character and bring us closer to Him, just as a loving parent corrects their child for their benefit.

Balancing Forgiveness and Discipline in Our Faith Journey

Balancing forgiveness and discipline is a delicate but vital aspect of our faith journey. We must recognize the importance of forgiving others as God forgives us when they genuinely repent. Simultaneously, we must accept God's discipline when we stray from His path, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than punishment.

"My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child." (Heb 12:5-6,)

In conclusion, as we practice the presence of God, we are called to embrace forgiveness and discipline as integral components of our faith journey. God's willingness to forgive us when we repent exemplifies His boundless love, and His discipline, born out of love, guides us toward a life of righteousness. By understanding and applying these principles, we can deepen our connection with God and experience spiritual growth in our pursuit of His presence.

Reflective questions:

1. In my practice of the presence of God, how have I experienced the transformative power of forgiveness when I genuinely repent and seek His mercy? What does this reveal about God's love and grace in my life?

2. Reflecting on the concept of discipline within the context of my faith journey, how do I perceive God's correction and guidance when I persist in wrongdoing? How can I embrace God's discipline as an opportunity for spiritual growth and drawing closer to Him?

3. As I strive to balance forgiveness and discipline in my relationship with God and others, how can I apply the principles discussed in this Bible Plan to foster a deeper connection with God and promote a spirit of forgiveness and discipline in my interactions with those around me?
