Five Purposes of Prayer

DAY 4 OF 6

Day 4 – Restoration Of Peace

In the midst of conflict, what do you do? Do you fight to defend yourself against your accuser, or do you pray and stay silent? Usually, most people do the former instead of the latter. And to tell you the truth, it’s not bad. But defending yourself harshly against someone accusing you doesn’t usually resolve the conflict, even if you win the case.

I remember clearly when one distant family member accused me of disrespect just because I chose to spend more time doing the work of the ministry than obeying his ‘self-made rules’ for people to communicate with him. Anytime he tried to speak against me, I didn’t mind him. However, I was consistently feeling bad anytime I saw him around. I didn’t find peace until God showed me Philippians 4:6-7 to meditate on. It says,

[6] “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; [7] and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

Please read that scripture again if you skimmed it!

It’s clear that the solution to anxiety is prayer. God restores His peace in your heart and mind when you pray, especially amid conflict. But the good news is that when you know trouble is coming, and you pray ahead, He will guard your peace as you go through that situation.
