Advent Sundays

DAY 4 OF 4

4th SUNDAY OF ADVENT: PROPHECY FULFILLED

LIGHTING THE FOURTH PURPLE CANDLE: This candle represents love and peace.

We think of Christmas time as always being a happy time for people, and it should be. But we must remember that some look at Christmas as a burden because of the extra expense of giving gifts. Or perhaps their spouse just died, and they feel alone and are adjusting to a new way of living. Or perhaps they have children who are on drugs, or maybe someone is going through a divorce, or maybe they were just diagnosed terminal.

Just because we accepted Christ doesn’t mean we are always going to be on the mountaintop of life.

Jesus even reminded us that in this world, we will have tribulations, but with that said, even with all the things listed above that can put a person into a low mood or depression, if our focus is on the real reason for Christmas, we can still experience His love and His peace.

I remember when my kids were little and money was very scarce. I decided that year to make all homemade gifts, and I think to this day, they remember those gifts more than the ones purchased. I made a hobby horse, a lap quilt, painted pictures, painted ceramic, sewed dresses, baked cookies, made candy, made Holly Hobby dolls, and the list went on.

When we give a gift, we give it from the heart, so let’s make Christmas about the Giver, not the gifts.

LET US CELEBRATE: If you know someone who isn’t looking forward to Christmas, why not make them a homemade gift? You might become their light in the darkness this season.

LIGHTING THE FIFTH CANDLE: The white candle is to be lit on Christmas Eve, representing the Lamb of God who came to save. This is a great time to read the Christmas story. Luke 2:1-20

PRAYER: We just want to thank You, God, for sending Jesus and always having us on your mind. We look forward to the day when we can see you face to face and spend all of eternity in Your presence. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
