Courageous and Free - 8 Day Journey to Inner Healing

DAY 7 OF 8

Is There a Lie I am Believing?

When our heart is wounded, we are vulnerable to being attacked by lies that affirm what we feel to be true. As you look at where you have been wounded, God wants to set you free from the lies that have held your heart in bondage. Identifying and replacing lies with the truth takes away the enemy’s weapons, disarming him of the influence he has had in your life. We need to courageously name the lies we have believed and exchange them for the truth.

It is easy to let the messages we have picked up throughout our lives dictate what we see and feel about ourselves. Often these messages are attached to situations where we felt wounded and powerless. There is a voice that has been speaking over your life since before you were born. Do you know what it is saying about you?

“But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:1-4‬ ‭(NLT)‬‬

What message from the verses above would you highlight that affirms God’s view of your life? If you and I are going to experience freedom, we need to name and exchange the lies we have believed with the truth of how God sees us.

Ask God right now if there is a message you have believed that He wants you to replace with the truth. These messages may be a familiar voice or place of refuge in your life. We often hold on to untrue messages because we are trying to keep it all together and protect ourselves. Inevitably, we end up feeling lost and hopeless.

What we believe influences our interactions with God, ourselves, and those around us. Once we acknowledge what we have built our lives around, it may take some time to begin to respond in a different way. This is a key time for you to invite a trusted counselor, friend, or mentor to walk with you as you replace the lies you have believed with truth. Don’t let discouragement set in. You were made for more.

The messages of love that God has for your life will bring wholeness and vitality you never could have imagined. 2 Corinthians 4:2 says, “We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.” The word “reject” in this verse is also translated “renounce”; fromthe Greek word “apipomane”, which means "to say off for oneself or disown".

Ask Jesus to show you what lies you may be believing and then invite Him to show you the truth.

Courageous Prayer to Renounce Lies

I renounce the lie of the enemy that says _____________, in the name of Jesus and in the power of His blood.

Jesus, what is the truth You are speaking to me?

Jesus promises that He is the Light and Truth. The Truth that He gives you has the power to set your heart free. (See John 8:12 and 8:31-36.)

Courageous Prayer to Renounce Negative Life Messages

Lord, I renounce the message that ____________________________. Open my heart to receive the messages of truth that You are speaking over me. Please break the power that this message has had in my life.

There is a new theme rising up from the ashes of your life. It is a God-breathed theme that heaven has been fighting for you to know since the moment you were conceived. These negative messages are the things that have pushed back against the theme of your created purpose. If you have felt rejected, there is a reason. There is something waiting to be released from within you, and the enemy is pushing back against the purpose for which you were created. What do you think he is afraid of?

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)

Did you know that there is a song God is singing over your life? Have you stopped to listen? Your song has a theme. Go ahead, listen.

God, what is the theme of the song You are singing over me?
