DAY 3 OF 3

If You Could Know God Personally

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. … 1 John 3:1 NRSV-CI

If you could know God personally, would you want to? God, in fact, created us to have this kind of relationship. He wants to be a father to us, to show us His love for us continually. But there is a problem. Our turning away from God—in what we have done and in what we have failed to do—has severed our relationship and separated us from Him.

Jesus came to restore that relationship. Pope Francis sums up the core of Christianity this way: “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.”

The Bible says, “What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepared for those who love him.”

Which of the images shown best represents your relationship with God?

  • Is He someone you are aware of, but whom you keep outside of your life?
  • Is He someone who is a part of your life, but not an important part?
  • Is He at the center of your life, influencing all your decisions and every aspect of your life?

Which of those images do you want to represent your life?

Let us pray: Father, I believe that you know me and love me. But I have broken my relationship with you through my sins. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus who proved your love for me on the cross. I invite you to be the center of my life—to be my Lord and Savior. Amen.

“It counts little to know the articles of faith if we do not confess Jesus as the Lord of our lives." Pope Francis, June 29, 2017
