Seeking God in a Stack of Work

DAY 6 OF 7

God's Fingerprint

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

One of the thorns that pricks us in times of uncertainty is the feeling of uncertainties. I've personally experienced the weight of this struggle. I went through a difficult season once. I started a business, and it was a messy failure. So, I had to start looking for a job again. I decided to venture back from Indonesia to Singapore to find a job. It was a challenging time then, as the economy was in crisis, and my savings had dwindled due to a failed business venture. There were so many uncertainties.

In the midst of my mounting anxiety, I turned to prayer and surrendered to God like a child in the arms of their Father. I still recall that moment vividly, when a serene peace washed over me. I asked God to give me a job that I could start working on July 12, a date of special significance to me.

In early June, I returned to Singapore and engaged in a diligent search for employment, sending out countless applications. Many interviews were conducted, but none seemed to yield positive results. I even heard stories from friends, like one who had graduated from a top university and had been searching for a job for an entire year. Whenever restlessness threatened to consume me, I would reflect on that moment when I prayed and surrendered everything to God.

Then, on July 8, I had an interview at a company. It appeared to go well and the boss mentioned the possibility of a second interview, which would likely take place the following week due to the person in charge being on leave.

The next day, I received a call from HR. "Congratulations," she said. "You've been accepted, and there is no need for a second interview." My heart leaped with surprise and joy. I was nearly willing to jump with excitement.

"When can you start?" She inquired.

"Tomorrow," I responded with unwavering conviction.

"Well, you can't," the HR manager replied. "I'll be on leave tomorrow, but you can join us on the 12th when I return."

My heart melted upon hearing those words. It was a clear sign, a trace of God's hand at work, declaring that He was watching over me, caring for me, and providing for me. His eyes never wandered away from my journey. God left His fingerprints all over my circumstances, ensuring that my joy would be complete, to show that He has been watching over me. That fingerprint is much more valuable than the job itself.

Uncertainty is an inherent part of life in this world because nothing in the world can guarantee certainty. Yet, the uncertainty of this world cannot erase the certainty we find in God. While our eyes may only perceive complexity and uncertainty, God's strong and sure hand is at work behind the scenes. As long as we anchor our hope and security in the systems of this world, we shall never find true peace.

That is why Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not be afraid." Though our eyes may only discern the trembling path before us, let us wholeheartedly receive the gift of peace given to us by our Lord Jesus, and let us trust unwaveringly in His grand orchestration of divine work that unfolds beyond the scenes.

About this Plan

Seeking God in a Stack of Work

Too often, we find ourselves trapped in a false dichotomy, dividing our work into categories of spiritual and unspiritual. We view ministry within the church as holy while anything outside of that realm is deemed worldly...
