Leading With Confidence: Seven Affirmations for Leaders, a 7-Day Plan by Joy Oguntimein

DAY 5 OF 7

Complete

Do you ever feel like you’re not enough? I have. And I know I’m not alone. Many leaders fight against feelings of inadequacy. I’ve read articles that say imposter syndrome (i.e., doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud) impacts 70% of people. If you’re like me and the other 70% of people, here’s some good news. Through our relationship with Christ, we lack nothing.

The word complete means entire, finished, made full, and perfect. The word means to be full or to be fulfilled now. In Christ, we are entirely and wholly full. You have been made full in Him. Nothing is missing. Christ fills you up. You have everything you need to lead.

What we think we need or are lacking in, whether it is godly character traits, physical health, resources, or anything else we already have in Christ. The only thing that remains for us to do is to walk in this completeness by believing what God’s Word says about us. Jesus Christ, the greater One, lives in us (1 John 4:4), and with His ability, as well as access to His wisdom and guidance, we have everything I need to fulfill the call He has for us.

Don’t focus on your lack. Instead, focus on your completeness in Jesus and say:

  • “Jesus, You are my wisdom; I put on the mind of Christ.”
  • “Jesus, You are my peace; I have the serenity that passes all human understanding.”,
  • “Jesus, You are my strength; I can do all things relying on your power.”
  • “Jesus, You are my rock; I can stand firm in you.”

When imposter syndrome takes hold of you, you take hold of it. Because of Jesus, you have what you need to lead confidently anywhere God wants you to. Don’t look at your shortcomings; look at Jesus, and lead.

Affirmation: I am complete in Christ. I lack nothing I need for my leadership calling.

Reflection: Take a thorough, honest inventory of your life; how has God prepared you to lead where you are now?
