The Parent's Battle Plan

DAY 3 OF 5

Fighting the Good Fight

We need to take responsibility for our actions, but we should not be deceived into believing that we are entirely responsible for all that is going on in our children’s lives. There are others involved with our children—namely the dark army. And there is a healthier way to approach things. First, we should ascertain how far our responsibility extends (the real and true mistakes we have made), and then acknowledge our part and commit to learn from the mistake, correcting our behavior as we move forward. The act of repentance can be defined as recognizing our error, admitting it to God, leaving it at His feet, turning away and moving forward in a better way.

God is love. There is not one thing we can do (or not do) that would make God love us more—or less. Knowing God, receiving His love for us and understanding that He is fighting our battles for us are the foundational elements that enable us to stand strong against any battle or any army and to believe that victory is on the way!

The Bible tells us to fight the good fight of faith. But how do we do that? It is God who gives us the weapons to protect ourselves and to successfully fight. He explains that we are to put on the armor with which He has endowed us. Armor is a covering used to protect an object or an individual from physical injury or damage. It is useful to protect against direct contact weapons or projectiles during combat. I think we can agree that armor is great to have around for potentially dangerous environments or activities.

Understanding who we are in Christ and putting on the armor of God daily will keep us ahead of our enemy. When we stand with God as His soldiers, we become fully equipped for each battle. We gain the assurance of knowing how to fight as a Christ-follower and a warrior-parent who will never consider losing. History has shown that any war can be won if we focus on our strengths and if we capitalize on the weaknesses of the opponent. Jesus is our strength. He is Satan’s weakness. While it is likely we may lose certain battles to win the overall war, we must be patient and continue to partner with God. Sooner or later, we will see victory!
