How to Set Boundaries in Christian Dating

DAY 3 OF 3

Setting Up Boundaries

There isn’t enough time in the day to spend putting things right, soothing bruised feelings, and repairing broken egos. If you are wise, you steer clear of any relationship that makes you feel trapped and makes you question how you got there. You’ve gone too far if you have to ignore God’s objectives for your life and forgo joy in order to make someone else happy. It’s essential to set boundaries when someone requests too many calls, dinners, loans, or other forms of attention; your time and energy are limited. (2 Timothy 2:22)

Here are ways of setting boundaries in a relationship:

  • Find mentors—preferably a married Christian couple—with whom you can be open and honest. This is crucial. We don’t want you to make errors out of ignorance when you begin a new era in your life. Given that every connection is unique and requires assistance from others in their own phase of development, hearing God’s voice via the experiences of others is crucial.
  • Both parties must share the same outlook and be Christians. Only those who are aware of God are capable of sacrificing themselves for Him and making an effort to preserve their partner’s purity. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8)
  • Do not engage in passionate kisses, late-night chats, or being alone in enclosed spaces. They are actions that God does not necessarily forbid, but even though everything is legal for you, it may not always be convenient. They are also doors that you must keep locked in order to resist temptation.
  • If you combine love with seclusion and a mentality that is open to all kinds of ideas, you will undoubtedly have a door wide open to temptations.
  • Try to keep up a constant prayer for one another. This will give you the guidance and fortitude you need to continue on in God’s plan for your union.
  • Together, read books and engage in growth-promoting activities. This will also provide more clarity and a very clear picture of a successful romance and marriage in the future.
  • Look for reading material on conflict resolution, self-care, decision-making, and interpersonal connections.

·You should consider courtship only as preparation for marriage because you will have taken a step in that direction, therefore it must be the prelude to your preparation for a life of “family with purpose.” (Ephesians 5:3)
