Find Your People

DAY 2 OF 6

Jesus, Our Friend

Our culture is obsessed with celebrities. We’re glued to their movies, their interviews on red carpets, and pictures they share on social media. In fact, there are entire fan clubs and groups devoted to them. Some of us even seem to know most every detail about their lives! However, is knowing about them the same thing as knowing them? Not even close.

Just because we know trivia about another person doesn’t make them our dear friend. Today, I have an important question for you: Do you know Jesus like a true friend—or do you just know about Him?

In today’s guiding verse, Jesus is speaking with His disciples. He doesn’t ask them to work harder or study more theology. Instead, He says that they’re more than servants to Him; they are His friends.

In our Christian walk, at times it’s easy to confuse good things in life with the most important thing—a growing relationship with God! We see this in Genesis 3:8 when God walked in the garden, looking for Adam and Eve. We see it again in His relationship with Moses in Exodus 33:11a: So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.

Relationships are based on knowing someone and being known by them. Jesus wants both for you and invites you into eternal friendship with Him.

Here’s a helpful challenge this week: The next time you read Scripture, pause and say something simple to God like this: “Hello God! I’m excited to hear from you today. What do You have to say to me?”

I encourage you to meet with God as you would meet with a dear friend.

As you engage with God’s Word:

● Do I really know Jesus—or just know about Him?

● What is God saying to me?

● How can I apply what God is teaching me?

● How can I be specific in prayer today?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
