First Date Tips for Christians

DAY 1 OF 5

Prepare Your Heart, Mind, & Body

Tip #1: Prepare for your first date!

So, you’re getting ready to go on a first date. And you’re probably feeling all sorts of things, from excitement to nervousness to possibly even some nausea. Whether this is your first first date or you’re hoping it’s your last first date, preparing well is essential to an enjoyable and meaningful experience.

Prepare Your Heart

The best way to prepare your heart is to give your hopes, expectations, and fears to God. If you’re new to the dating scene, a first date might feel really exciting and hopeful. But if you’ve been dating for a while to no avail, you might feel a little weary. Whatever the state of your heart, ask God to prepare you for this date, whether it’s with the person you’ll spend your life with or another on the “nope” list.

Prepare Your Mind

Our minds are so powerful–they can make up scenarios that sometimes feel more real than real life. It’s important to manage your mind before your first date. Don’t let your imagination ruin an enjoyable time before it even starts. If you find yourself thinking they won’t find you attractive or interesting or any other negative thoughts, give those to God and ask Him to fill your mind with truth instead.

And on the other hand, try not to build up this picture-perfect person or experience in your mind. Yes, there is a chance that sparks will fly, and you’ll be engaged six months later. But the reality is, you don’t know, and it’s better to go in with an open mind than to put unreachable expectations on a first date.

Prepare Your Body

Knowing your physical boundaries is essential before you go on a first date. Knowing what you are and aren’t comfortable with can ensure you don’t put yourself in a compromising position. As a Christian, it’s important to honor God with your body, which means saving sex for marriage. But there are other physical acts like kissing and holding hands that you may or may not be okay with on a first date. It may seem odd to think about physical intimacy and boundaries so soon, but when the sparks start to fly, it’s easy to get swept away in a moment. So, commit yourself to your physical boundaries beforehand.

By preparing your heart, mind, and body for your upcoming first date, you’ll feel more confident and at peace with whatever it brings. So, give all your hopes, fears, and worries to God, and let Him lead and guide you through your dating journey.
