21-Day Devotional for Christian Writers

DAY 6 OF 21

Like Moses, you’ve probably asked God to show you His glory at some point in your Christian walk. It is a reflection of your relationship with God that you are able to ask this question without fear – much like Moses.

Christians talk a lot about God's 'glory.' We pray for His name to be glorified in all we do. We also pray for His glory to 'come down' on us. But what is the glory of God and what does it mean for us writers?

In response to Moses' request that God reveal His glory to him, God said to Moses: "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and I will have compassion on whom I will compassion." So there we have it, God's glory explained in a nutshell by none other than Himself.

And here’s a somewhat radical idea: When we pray, in effect, we are asking God to show us His glory. And this verse gives us an assurance of God’s promise to us that His goodness, mercy, and grace goes before us in all that we do. And when those prayers are answered (or not, for God’s ways can be mysterious), it is God’s way of showing us His glory (all that is good and perfect about Him).

We are Christians. We are also writers. In doing this, we 'proclaim' His name. God makes it clear that it is His desire for us to experience all of His goodness, grace, and compassion by telling us that He will go ahead of us in this writing journey. With such an awesome promise, dare we compromise our writing gift and not use it to glorify the One that blessed us with it?

Over to you: How has God’s glory been revealed to you recently?
