A Dad Named Jairus

DAY 3 OF 4

The Miracle Worker

Jesus is never limited. At the same time that He was talking to the woman, He also overheard the message from Jairus’s people. At this moment, the daughter was dead but Jesus knew He would heal her. Jesus looked at Jairus and said, “Don’t be afraid, just believe, and she will be healed.” (Luke 8:50) Jesus then left the woman and resumed his walk to Jairus’s house. It was quite a scene when Jesus arrived. People were wailing and people were weeping. When Jesus said, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep,” (Mark 5:39) the people laughed at Him. They made fun of Jesus.

He went into the house with Jairus and into the room where the lifeless little girl was lying. Jesus gently took her hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Restored, she immediately got up and began walking around. (Mark 5:41) Jesus then told Jairus to give his daughter something to eat. All the mockers who laughed at Jesus earlier now stood in stunned amazement.

There have been times in my life when I knew things were hopeless without Jesus. There was the time that Nancy and I nearly called it quits six years into marriage. There were the periods of depression that Nancy and I each went through. There was Nancy’s heart attack. Finally, after counseling couples for over thirty years, I have seen God work miracle after miracle. Marriages that everyone had given up on were healed. Things that seemed unforgivable have been let go of.

The miracles could never have happened without Jesus but with Him nothing is impossible. He is the miracle worker!

Today’s Challenge: How have you seen God work in miraculous ways in your life and in your marriage?

Going Deeper:

What is going on in your life or your marriage today that is in need of a miracle? Whatever it is, today bring it and lay it at the feet of Jesus.

About this Plan

A Dad Named Jairus

Jairus was a dad with a dying daughter. He lived in the time of Jesus and like many people in the Bible, he is only mentioned once. Yet, through Jesus' brief encounter with him, there is much for us to learn.
