[Life of David] How to Wage Our Own Battles

DAY 7 OF 7

A victorious life

Everybody wants to lead a better life. Some people work out, others reduce their sugar intake, but a better life is not the same as a victorious life. Victorious living comes from a heart bent towards justice, righteousness, and service.

In the Bible, King David gives us a glimpse of that life when he says that he will reign administering justice and righteousness for all his people. He declared ruling isn’t about sitting on a couch or eating grapes in the palace. Instead, it is about serving his people by being a righteous and faithful servant. The reason for David’s success was that the Lord helped him wherever he went. It was a blessing that came because he had a special connection with God. And this connection instilled in him the desire to have a character that increasingly resembled that of His Lord, filled with justice, righteousness, and mercy. Like David, we need to be connected to God. We need to abide in Christ and trust in Him in such a way that we start to yearn to bring forth the fruits of the Spirit in our lives, and lead from that spot.

God’s blessing of David is a picture of what God would do through Jesus. God put all His enemies, including sin, death, and hell, under the feet of Jesus. God gave Jesus the victory wherever He went. But those who are blessed in the forgiveness of Jesus are meant to share the blessing. We are blessed by God to be a blessing to others.

Watchman Nee said, “Outside of Christ, I am only a sinner, but in Christ, I am saved. Outside of Christ, I am empty, but in Christ I am full. Outside of Christ, I am weak. Inside, I am strong. Outside of Christ, I cannot, but inside Christ, I can do all things, even more than I am able. Outside of Christ, I have been defeated. Inside of Christ, I am already victorious. Then, therefore, how meaningful are the words ‘in Christ?’”

If you know Jesus as Savior, you have a special connection to God even on days when it feels you don’t. If you don’t know Christ yet, ask Him to be your Savior. God has something for you. Just keep your heart focused on Him. Not on the battle, but on Him. Let God have His victory through you.
