[Ruth] Returning to a Covenant Relationship

DAY 3 OF 3

Contrasting Views

Naomi had no husband, no sons, and only two Moabite daughters-in-law. As she surveyed her life, she concluded that God didn’t care for her and dealt her harsh blows. Have you ever felt this way?

Naomi heard that the Lord had brought bread to Bethlehem, so she rose to return, and her daughters-in-law accompanied her. Strangely, Naomi entreated Orpah and Ruth to go back to their families. However, while Orpah made her way back to Moab, Ruth made a beautiful vow of commitment never to leave Naomi’s side.

There are many differences between what Ruth saw and what Naomi saw. Naomi wanted to return because she wanted food, but Ruth wanted God. While her mother-in-law had lost faith and walked away from God, Ruth grew closer to Him.

We can also see a contrast in how the women of Bethlehem were excited about Naomi’s return, but she wasn’t thrilled about it. She even said, “I went out FULL, but the Lord brought me back EMPTY.”

But who was standing next to her? She had lost her perspective, so she couldn’t see the blessing of Ruth right by her side. Naomi didn’t recognize what God had done for her in Ruth. On the contrary, she thought God was at fault! Naomi was plagued by an all-about-me attitude, making her oblivious to everything the Lord had done for them.

What had God provided for Naomi? Ruth; a home; a return to the blessing; food; friends; and Himself.

What had God provided for Ruth? Naomi; a new home; the covenant blessing; food; family; and Himself.

God desires to bless abundantly. Naomi had only returned physically, not spiritually, but God started to bless her even at the beginning of her return.

It is time to change our perspective. Even if we have been left EMPTY, with God, we have EVERYTHING! Look around you. Your blessing could be standing next to you, and you haven’t even realized it!

God’s purpose for our return is that we may be close and connected to Him because He is good and the source of all life, love, and grace. He desires to bless us abundantly in ways we never expect. He even provided His Son, Jesus Christ, so we may return to be close and connected to Him through Him!

Jesus is our provision for life and eternity, and He is inviting us to come back home.

About this Plan

[Ruth] Returning to a Covenant Relationship

It is great to be near the God who showers us with blessings and loves us unconditionally. We wander away and don’t even notice how distant we’ve become from God. How can we return to our senses and return to His loving ...
