 <div class="p">1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,#5:1 That is, the Sea of Galilee the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. 2He saw at the water&#8217;s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.</div><div class="p"> 4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, &#8220;Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 5Simon answered, &#8220;Master, we&#8217;ve worked hard all night and haven&#8217;t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.</div><div class="p"> 8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus&#8217; knees and said, &#8220;Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!&#8221; 9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon&#8217;s partners.</div><div class="p">Then Jesus said to Simon, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.&#8221; 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.</div>

Can such faith save them? 15Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to them, &#8220;Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,&#8221; but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.</div><div class="p"> 18But someone will say, &#8220;You have faith; I have deeds.&#8221;</div><div class="p">Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that&#8212;and shudder.</div><div class="p"> 20You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless#2:20 Some early manuscripts dead? 21Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, &#8220;Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,&#8221;#2:23 Gen. 15:6 and he was called God&#8217;s friend. 24You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.</div><div class="p"> 25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.</div>
