Reflections On Hope

DAY 8 OF 21

Throughout history, we read accounts of Christians who have been persecuted, betrayed, and martyred because of their faith. This Scripture tells us that God is our refuge – a present help in time of need! When we cry out to God in our prayers, He hears us! When we worship God, He draws near to us. When we experience stormy times and seek His face, His Word becomes clearer to us. It anchors our souls, and provides us with comfort, peace, and hope.

The Psalmist says that God is a stronghold in times of trouble. A stronghold is a structure that provides safety from the enemy. Picture in your mind a large castle or a fort with thick walls. It is very difficult to gain entrance into a structure of this size and magnitude. Just as people are kept safe from the enemy in a fortress, similarly the Lord will protect us in our battles. The Lord’s presence and power surrounds us and we are kept safe in Him!

Can I encourage you to seek God afresh in this season? Tell God about your struggles and invite Him to be your refuge and stronghold. He promises that we will never be abandoned or forsaken. In 1 Peter 5:7 we are exhorted to cast all our anxiety on the Lord because He cares for us!

We know that faith comes by hearing God’s Word, so we need to replace any doubt, anxiety and confusion, with the truth. When you are feeling oppressed or overwhelmed, put your trust in God.

Make a daily commitment to meditate on the promises of hope found in God’s Word. It will build up your faith and transform your thinking!
