Beatitudes - Sermon on the MountSample

Beatitudes - Sermon on the Mount

DAY 5 OF 15

What kind of food or drink do you hunger or thirst for? Maybe you've travelled to another city and had some really good food. When you get home, you think about that food, how good it was, the smell, and how it danced on your tastebuds. Then when you’re back home, you’re too far away to get it. You hunger and thirst to have it again!

Jesus describes in the beatitudes how God blesses those who want to obey Him more than they want to eat or drink. He blesses people who hunger and thirst for right living. Matthew 5:6 (NIrV) "Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right. They will be filled." Do you hunger and thirst for right living? Do you crave to serve God and live a life that obeys Him?

At the start of His ministry, when Jesus was tempted in the desert, he hadn't eaten for 40 days. How hungry would you feel after 40 days? Read today’s verses to find out what happened!

When the disciples had just begun to follow Jesus, some were fishermen who had spent their days searching for fish. Now they had left all they knew behind and were following Jesus. They were learning that following Jesus meant obeying God and that this would lead to blessing in His Kingdom. We’re followers of Jesus and part of God’s Kingdom, too, and when we crave and hunger for what is good for us - being in right standing with God and relying on Him, we’re blessed and satisfied!
